I’ve been blogging for over a year. Yet now that I’m switching the location of my blog, I’m scared. This is a bizarre and fascinating phenomenon which I feel should be studied.
The site is so fresh and clean and shiny. I don’t want to muck it up. Quite suddenly, my posts are no longer adequate. My writing is no longer worthy. Because…why now? Oh, right. The fresh, clean, shiny new blog. It is not to be muddied with words willy-nilly. Posts must be planned and polished to perfection. Ah. But that’s not how I write. So I am faced with a serious decision. Do I change who I am for my new blog?
I have this chance at a new online existence. It’s mind-blowing. I can be whoever I want. I can be funny. Well, I’m not sure about that but I can be very serious and literary. Although. With the fragments… I do love fragments. And swears. They’re fun.
My point is still valid. I can easily, with the click of my mouse, switch the colors, the theme, and even the name of my blog. With a wee bit of thought, I can change the whole focus of the thing. I can become someone else. Someone else who is me because I am still here writing and I’ve joined Twitter and I like all my tweeps there and whatnot.
So I’m stuck staring at the screen. It’s taunting me. Really, it’s not. Well, maybe a little. Some of the taunting is me of course, I know that. But screens can taunt. Ask anyone. *whispers* They can.
My first post needs to be a Mona Lisa. Or a Girl with a Pearl Earring. Okay. Aiming a bit too high. How about the slightly lesser known, but still magnificent, Spaghetti on Wheat?
My magic 8 ball says…“Ask Again Later” What?! I was counting on that! How much later? Stupid toy. Forget it. Here goes. My first post on my new blog:

Nice new digs! I did take off my shoes before walking in, though. Go ahead–fill it up with all your words. Splatter the walls with spaghetti and wheat and maybe some robust marinara. Play the Imperial March. Play a tin whistle. But write, ’cause…You. Are. A. Writer!

Spaghetti on wheat? Like a Martian on speed sort of thing is it? I love you for changing so I don’t have to fill in countless boxes before I comment only to realise my incredibly naff words have been eaten. And I thought of this to celebrate

Thanks for the excitement (and the song). I don’t even know what to say about that trailer. Except it’s naffing hilarious in a bizarre sort of way. I had to look up “naff” of course. So many uses…bwahaha. I love that you love that I moved to make things easier for everyone. Sorry about the comment thing – it happened to many people. And I love that you always leave me words to look up and add to my already colorful vocabulary. Seriously, thank you. 🙂

Sarah, I went knocking on your old door and didn’t realise you’d moved house. This looks great and I’m especially glad you’ve made a space for your flash fiction, a whole new room in fact, but of course the first post is so momentous it’s terrifying, but it’s downhill from here. From the outside, it seems that WordPress isn’t just so easy for commenting but also for connecting with other bloggers. I’ve thought about moving but I’ve got so much stuff now on my site.
Anyway, what happened to your old house? I was looking to refer to your “why I write” post – could you tweet me a link?
Hope you are settling in all right and getting all those cardboard boxes unpacked.

Yes, so far I find it easier to connect with other writers. Huge bonus. Your site is chock full of goodness. I don’t know how you’d transfer that over but, if you ever decide to, I’m sure you’ll find a way. It’s wonderful as it is now.
My old house is still standing. It will be there in all its glory for a bit. Or forever. I’m not sure how that all works. Will definitely tweet you the “Why I Write” post (as soon as I find it in these boxes…did I pack it with bedroom linens or kitchen stuff…).

Congratulations, Sarah, and welcome! I just moved over to WordPress about six months ago and there really is a world of difference – so much easier to interact. I don’t know if you know this, but there is a tool that will import posts from former blogs – it worked pretty well for me. I’ll dig it up for you if you want to give it a try. But then, of course, you lose your chance at a shiny new blog. It’s nice in its way, though – you don’t worry so much about spilling if there are already spaghetti stains on the floor 😉

Importing posts… You’re right about losing my shiny new blog but also not worrying if I get a bit of spaghetti on the floor.
