I’m making a list. I’m checking it twice. I’m going to toast you. Naughty or nice.
Seriously, it doesn’t matter. Either way, you’re good on my list.
Every year, during the holidays, I watch A Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life. Numerous times. Many numerous times. And, while I watch these films, I eat yummy foods. And drink delicious beverages. Sometimes seasonal beer, sometimes red or white wine, sometimes a treat of something sweet like Baileys. It’s a tradition.
So is toasting. The drink, the meal, the movie, the season…
And this year I’m adding you, my bloggy friends and fellow tweeps. Because, whatever my love/hate relationship with social media, the blogging “rules” I refuse to stress myself over, keeping up online appearances, I still appreciate you. Muchly. I love the comments, conversation, and community. You are the wind beneath my fins. (I could not even help that and have no idea where it came from—apologies.)
Back to my list. I’m actually making one. For real. Leave a comment with your preferred movie. I will raise my glass to you in gratitude, good health, and a happy holiday.
Thank you, gentle readers.
Cheers!
My Sunday thoughts in 200 words or less.
Happiness, joy, peace, love, chocolate, wine, and cheese platters, my friends! Happy Holidays! ❄️
(A Christmas Carol or It’s a Wonderful Life? P.S. If you don’t care for either of these movies, please, I beg of you, don’t tell me. It will hurt my delicate feelings. But, if you feel the need, just write: “I won’t say… Cheers!” and I will still include you on my list.)
My favourite Christmas movie is Miracle on 34th Street – the Richard Attenborough version. I have to watch it every year 🙂 A very happy Christmas to you and yours, Sarah x

Confession: I have never seen that movie. I was just thinking about that this weekend. Will watch this season. Happy holidays! ❄️ Cheers!

Love Actually has become a Christmas staple for the Vet and me. We sneak off to watch it. It even has a creepy woman-molesting POTUS. I mean how a la mode can you get!

Ugh. I’ll ignore that last part and give the movie a try. Really, that was not a stunning recommendation. The rest is good, I hope?

One of my fave movies this time of year is the comedy “Christmas in Connecticut” with Barbara Stanwyck and a dishy Dennis Morgan. Fave line: “Don’t be silly. We weren’t galavanting – we were in jail.”
Here’s to you and your loved ones this holiday season, and a big thank you for your thought-provoking posts and your encouraging comments. I hope the holiday season is filled with laughter and love and wonderful memories.

Great line! Did you get that in your collection of under $10 classics? Saw you mention that somewhere. I’ll add it to my TBW list.
Thank you! ❤️ Back at ya! Happy holidays to you and yours. Love and joy and many happy memories made. ❄️ Cheers!

Not much of Christmas movies over here… But actually I have something very special to share with you: it is the audio of Paul Auster´s short story “Auggie Wren’s Christmas”

I always make it a point to watch The Christmas Story. It’s a little over the top and corny, but it helps remind me that everything turns out fine in the end, you don’t always need what you want, and that Chinese restaurants are open if you are in need of a Christmas dinner (though we didn’t try the Peking Duck that year!).

Haha! Ralphie! That’s not one I watch every year but it should be! 😀 What a brilliant movie. I’m totally watching it and raising my glass to you, lovely lady. Maybe I can find some bunny footie pajamas. 🐰 Cheers!

I really enjoy It’s a Wonderful Life and I get all choked up over a couple scenes (young George and the druggist, when his brother toasts him at the end, etc.). However, I think I would pick A Christmas Carol. But which one? Ugh — tough choice, but I think the Patrick Stewart version wins for me. (Although the Christmas Present in the George C. Scott version is so growly and awesome!)
Enjoy watching and celebrating, everyone!

Yes, It’s a Wonderful Life gets me every time. ❤️
It IS tough call. Patrick Stewart is absolutely brilliant as Scrooge and a lot of the characters are better (Christmas past, Mrs. Cratchit…). But I do love George C. Scott and some of those characters are better (Fred, Christmas future…). Christmas present is fantastic in both and…I could go on with this for a long time. I shall stop. Hee…growly. 😀 “It’s all Bob Cratchit can affoooord!” Thank you! ❄️ Cheers!

Those are great movies. I also love, love A Christmas Story. And my all time favorite is the old cartoon version of The Grinch who Stole Christmas. Tornado Boy is getting that one for Christmas and I can’t wait to watch it with him. Thanks for the toast and I agree, the WP community is full of good cheer ❤

A Christmas Story! Just been reminded of that one. I used to watch it when I was younger but haven’t for years. It’s brilliant, really. 😀 I’ve got to watch that again.
We just watched The Grinch this weekend! (The fantastic, old classic with Boris Karloff). I’m sure we’ll watch it again before the season is over. I’ll raise my glass to you while The Grinch’s heart grows three sizes and he finds the strength of TEN Grinches. Plus two! ❄️ Cheers!

Scott version…I absolutely love that one and our family watches it on Christmas eve every year. My other favorite Christmas Movie is “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” sometimes Clark Griswald and I have way too much in common. 😉
❤ MAST!

I like them both, though have no particular desire to watch them again. I also enjoy the decade-old movies for kids shown on TV at this time of the year which I have not seen at the cinema.
I think Love Actually is one of the worst films ever! Cheers!

I think my favorite holiday movie is The Muppet’s Christmas Carol. I end up singing along, and sometimes, when I walk outside, I burst out with, “When a cold wind blows it chills ya, chills ya to the bone!” The animated Mickey’s Christmas Carol was always a favorite of mine as well.
Cheers to you!

You’ll be pleased to know that I did finally watch It’s a Wonderful Life just recently. With a lot of old movies, you can kind of see what the fuss was about at the time, but realise it’s just nostalgia that takes people back to it. Not this one, Sarah. I really got it. Good call. Not sure I’ll watch it every year, but I will watch it again.
No specific recommendations, though I do enjoy Jingle All The Way and The Santa Claus. Clearly, I’m as high-minded as ever…
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Awesome. 🙂 It IS partly nostalgia (at least for me) but completely agree it’s a great film. So glad you got to watch it (and liked it). Haha! High-minded, indeed. I might skip those ones…or perhaps not. Maybe we’ll watch them and get a good laugh. We need one! Happy New Year to you and yours! ❄ Cheers!

Recouping from knee surgery, I have seem almost every one of the Hallmark movies….from good to not so.. I like many of the ones mentioned, but Elf makes me laugh and has such Christmas spirit and silliness. There is a Hallmark with Patty Duke playing an angel. It might become a yearly tradition for me. Very sweet.

It’s been years since I’ve seen a Hallmark movie. Don’t recall one with Patty Duke but I’ll look it up. Hope your knee is getting better. ❤ Here’s to a healthy, happy New Year to you and your family. Cheers! ❄

There’s a retro movie theater near me that plays It’s a Wonderful Life every New Year’s Eve. People buy tickets in advance and it always sells out. What an experience! The organ rises from under the stage and plays before the movie starts, the popcorn is cheap, and everybody boos Potter and cheers George.
My favorite movie is White Christmas. It’s the only DVD I own.
Second favorite: Mr Magoo’s Christmas Carol.

That is the COOLEST THING EVER! I would be there every year! Wicked. What a brilliant idea.
So here I thought I owned the least amount of DVDs and, well, I can’t compete with one. Wow. I’ve got to see that if it’s not only your favorite but your only DVD. (I think I remember Mr. Magoo’s Christmas but I’ll take a peek at it again…) ❄ Cheers!

Our holiday tradition is my mom and sisters watching White Christmas while the various guys in our lives desperately think up any and all excuses to be elsewhere.
This year we also introduced my boys to Home Alone, which they loved. I now fear for any would-be intruders as my kids can be quite clever.
But my favorite of all is the original animated Grinch. Some classics should never be remade.

Yes to this: “Some classics should never be remade.” That Grinch is the only one I will watch. Ha! Home Alone. It’s been many years. Fun how we rewatch old movies when our kids turn the age we were when we saw it (or around there…) 😊
Love your family’s tradition. I have GOT to see White Christmas! If I’ve seen it, I completely forgot about it.
