I shared how to embed tweets in a blog post but you may be asking yourself why you’d want to.
You: “So, Sarah, that was cool and all but why would I need tweets on my blog?”
Me: “What?! Because!”
You: …
Me: “It’s awesome, that’s why!”
You: …
Me: “Okay. I’ll tell you.”
These embedded tweets are… Psst… Come closer… *whispers* Interactive.
I know, right? How cool is that?! Readers can do anything right from your blog.
- Open your tweet
- Visit your timeline
- Check out a hashtag
- Follow
- Like
- Retweet
- Reply
Everything is clickable. It’s basically a live tweet. One that you’ve highlighted. One that you want to share with your blog readers.
I do like Twitter but, let’s face facts, that thing moves like ticker tape. It’s so easy to miss tweets from your tweeps. Depending on how often you post, that tweet is going to be much more visible here.
And it doesn’t have to be just one. You can make an entire post from tweets. Maybe you’ve had an interesting conversation about traditional vs indie publishing. Or the best way to make brownies. Or whether spiders or rats have had better PR. (I’ve had that last convo quite recently: Mickey Mouse and Spider-Man. It was weird.)
Regardless, it makes for a fun post and people can interact with each tweet by liking, retweeting, and even replying to it right from your blog.
- Catch tweeps who may have missed your tweet.
- Reach blog buddies who may not be following you on Twitter.
- Create synergy between your blog and social media.
- Highlight content from Twitter.
- Create a blog post composed entirely of tweets (e.g. a compilation of micro fiction).
- Get inspiration. Transform a tweet into a longer piece.
- Promote your writing…new releases, cover reveals, trailers, etc.
- Ask a question on your blog with a Twitter poll. *
FOLLOW:
This allows readers to…well…follow you.
TIMELINE:
Your name/avi brings readers directly to your timeline. (They can open a specific tweet by clicking on the time/date of the embedded tweet.)
LIKE:
RETWEET:
REPLY:
Readers can reply to your tweet right here.
A pop-up box appears, they write 140 characters (or less) in reply to you, then click “tweet”. This shows up on their timeline and yours. Nice!
Let’s try this, shall we? I’ll embed a tweet or two, you have fun:

* I tried a poll a few years ago and, when I posted about it, most bloggers said they hadn’t seen the poll on Twitter. If you embed it, both your blogging friends and your tweeps can vote.

Hope you found some fun ways to use a tweet on your blog. Remember…a well-placed tweet can make a good post great. (I just made that up but it’s kind of cool.) 🙂
Happy blogging (and tweeting) days, my friends!
That is kinda cool actually! I was asking myself those actual questions when I read your first post lol! But then I tweet my posts and tend to retweet others, rather than interacting directly on Twitter…!

I was asking myself those questions when I was writing it! Like, this is cool but people are going to wonder why I’m telling them. 😉 Sounds like a good fit for you. I’m on Twitter a bit, interacting, but still miss a lot from people I follow. Either way, it’s fun. 🙂

When I find a suitable tweet to use, I shall do so…one day!

I’ve yet to see a convincing reason for using Twitter at all…

Haha! 😂 Well… I have a love/hate relationship with social media in general. It definitely has its uses and can be fun…but this isn’t a post to convince anyone of that. Those who use Twitter might like to try this. Or not. Just thought I’d share.

I don’t know if this is the same thing as what you’re calling ’embedding’ but I have a thing where people can click any piece of text in my post and tweet it there and then. Is that the same as what you’re saying? If so, you’re so right everyone needs to do this. It’s a handy thing to see when people quote you, cause you can see what resonates with people, ya know?

No, that’s ‘click to tweet’. I haven’t tried it yet. It lets you share specific phrases from the post. I didn’t know you could click ANY piece of text. Awesome! Yeah, that’s something I need to look into. Exactly. People quote your work but then you get to see which parts they liked enough to quote. So cool.

It reminds me of popular highlights in Kindle books. Oh I always thought it was click any bit of text?? Maybe it isn’t?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Those kindle highlights are cool. (I’m so original…638 other people highlighted this sentence.) 🙄
I’m not sure about the text. I *think* in the ‘click to tweet’ you choose specific sentences or phrases to highlight and allow people to click but yours might be something else. Either way, it’s a good feature.

Yesterday’s article was informative, this one puts it all in perspective 😉 I’d never thought of using Twitter this way.

Thank you. 🙂 That was the plan. Glad it worked out. I’ve seen lots of uses for embedding and I’m sure I missed some but figured I’d try to give people some ways to use the info.

Well, you came up trumps on this one, Sarah 🙂

That’s amazing. I had no idea you could interact with embedded tweets like that. Now I want to write a post with a tweet in it!

I know! I have old posts with static photos of tweets… 😝 Love that you can interact with these. Did you try to like or RT or reply to either of the embedded ones here? (Totally write one! I want to read it.)
LikeLiked by 2 people
I didn’t try to interact with them… and now I can’t find them! I will definitely think about how I can use tweets to add value to a post… (scratches head).

Oh no. They’re not in the post? Ack!
(I’ll be on the look-out for tweets in your posts.)

Hi Sarah
I’m sorry about my excessively negative and rude comment earlier. I grumbled, crossly, to myself “What on earth can you say of significance in 140 characters?”
Naturally that set me thinking (that’s my big vice – other than being rude to people when I’ve only just woken up!) and I came up with “In 140 characters or fewer I can say ‘I love you’; and what could be more significant than that?”
OK, you win! Maybe Twitter isn’t trivial!
Love
Penny

I’m laughing so much at this. 😂 Glad I saw it after your other comment. You’ve got to give yourself some time to wake up before reading blogs. Ooh… You’d be surprised how much can be said in 140 characters or less. And ‘I love you’ definitely fits! Thanks, Penny. 🌸 Have a lovely week.

I had no idea these were so interactive. I never even tried working with them! Thanks for sharing this discovery. This will be a LOT of fun. 🙂

It’s super cool with a cherry on top, right? It’s SO fun. Did you play with the embedded tweets at the end of the post? (The poll, unfortunately, takes you to my timeline but still…cool that you can make sure no one misses seeing and/or voting in it.) Hope you get to try this out! 🙂

Excellent idea Sarah. And lol, you just reminded me that I installed ‘click to tweet’ right into my editor dashboard and keep forgetting to add a clickable tweet to my posts. So much to do, so little time. 🙂 ❤

If you already have it, that’s awesome. Is it the one where you cut and paste a line or phrase in? Hope you start using that. Your posts are so quotable. 💖 Cut, paste, and give us readers your clickable, tweetable link. 🙂

Thanks Sarah. I will remember to start using it again. Yes. Here is a link to a https://dgkayewriter.com/easy-readers-click-tweet-savvy-book-writers/post I even wrote about how to use it, lol

Thanks, Sarah. You are a clever girl. You answered my questions, and others I hadn’t even thought of yet. I didn’t realise that you could interact with tweets on a blog post. That is awesome. I can see some potential there. Just have to figure out what specifically.

Glad I could answer your questions. As I was writing the other post I thought people might be wondering what to do with them and why to use them. I love that readers can interact with these. It’s really cool. Potential is good. You’ll find a reason. If you look at some online news articles, you’ll see them there. I’m seeing them more and more on posts and in articles. (If someone says something nice on Twitter about Readilearn, you could embed that as most of your followers will probably miss it. Or create a poll for Readilearn. Just some thoughts…) 🌺

Thanks for your suggestions, Sarah. I’ll give it some thought. I had noticed tweets in lots of posts and articles, but hadn’t realised they were interactive. Thanks for enlightening me. 🙂

Huh. I didn’t realize they were interactive. I thought they were just images! 🙂 Great ideas here, Sarah.

I used to download and upload and put in media and all that jazz and, yes, work for a simple image. This is easier and readers can interact with them from here. (I think you have to be signed into Twitter but don’t actually have to ever leave the blog if you don’t want to.) So cool. 🙂

Hi Sarah. I don’t really use Twitter that much, but I’ve seen embedded tweets on posts and think its a good idea. I’ll have to read your other post and find out how to do it now! Watch out for it on my next post! 😁
