I’ve posted before how I’ve never participated in NaNoWriMo and how I’ve never had the slightest desire to and how I applaud those wacky writers who do.
But this is a rhino of a different color. Ninny can be any color I want him to be. He may even have polka dots or stripes. Who knows? Point is, Mini-Wri-Mo’s a different sort of challenge, as Ms. Amazingly Prolific Peach explains in her post.
March is looking like a difficult month for me but, eh, which one isn’t? And that clichéd quote “It’s never a good time for…” is cliché for a reason. (It’s true, people. That’s what I’m saying here.)
So off I go. Ready to take on this month-long writing challenge. Wish me luck, fellow writers. I’ll need it.
My not-so-random thoughts in 200 words or less.
Joining in Diana’s challenge? Why not, right? Set your own goals and celebrate your accomplishments. You get to create a Rhino that’s all yours. (And you get a badge. I mean, honestly, who can resist a badge? With a rhino. And a star.) ✍️ 🦏
Starts today, March 1st, so figure out what you’re doing and get moving, my friends.

I should also have a pretty busy month because goals, you know. So best of luck to you and here’s to writing up a storm

So…you’re sort of, kind of already unofficially participating in the Ninny Rhino. It’s a month of whatever-you-want writing goals. Stormy writing, my friend!

Awesome, Sarah. Thanks for sharing. I’m so glad you’re taking the challenge, and it can be shorter than a month, too, if that works. The point (of the horn) is to give yourself a bit on a nudge, not impale yourself! Ha. Happy Writing. ❤

Thanks so much for the Rhino idea. Looking forward to moving forward this month with some non-stressful writing goals. (Will watch out for the horn as not to impale myself.) Happy Ninny Rhino to you, my friend. I’ll check in the end of the month.

Good luck with the challenge! I did NaNo in November – my first time. But I made it through with a very rough first draft. Not sure if I’d do it again.

Thanks,Teri. I don’t think I’d like NaNo but you never know, I guess. Hey, you going to join in for March? Set your own goals (and it doesn’t have to be word count).

I am – replied on Twitter today. Been off social media most of the weekend working on my second draft – but it’s been a productive weekend!

I saw that. Woot! Excited for you to be done with your 2nd draft. Or 3rd draft by the end of the month?! (BTW, which book is this?)

It has a working title of Book 3. I’m stunningly creative.

I’m actually working on a few things so, at the moment, I suppose you could say I’m choosing to get some focus so I can just sit down and WRITE. 🙂

I can’t, either. Who knows what will come out of my pen? Not I. 🙂 🦏 Thanks, Norah.

Welcome back, my friend! ❤ I've been on a kind of/sort of blogging break (just reducing my posts because…life) but so glad you took a real break. Nothing like a good getaway. Hope it was wonderful!

Hi Sarah – I have never done the NaNoWriMo during the actual month of November, but my family gave me the novel writing kit that goes with it and I did it 3x during the summer. I don’t know how I could find the time to do it now, but I definitely applaud everyone who gets it done! Good luck with your challenge!

Hey, cool. What is the novel writing kit? (As I said, I’ve never done the actual NaNoWriMo, either.) How did it work out with your challenges this summer? Do tell. I need any motivation I can get to keep my One Word (MOVE) for this year. 🙂 Thanks!

It’s called No Plot? No Problem! and it’s made by the same guy – I think his name is Chris Baty (sp). I haven’t done it in a few years but I did it when my kids were younger and I wasn’t working. Let me know if you do it, Sarah! Maybe I’ll do it again 😀👍

Oh! The book. Yup. I wrote a post about that book…wow…four years ago. It’s here: Great Book for Writers…NaNo or Not
Chris is the founder of NaNoWriMo. Late 90s, I think. It’s a great book. I’ve never used it as intended but do find it funny and inspirational. Will let you know if I use it for a whole month-long word count thing. As of March, it’s not too late to join in and set a few goals. Writing, editing, reviewing, blogging… 😉

Thanks, Simon. It’s pretty laid back so I think I’ll be okay. Don’t know about doing a full NaNo but this seems doable. (It’s not too late to join in, BTW. Just saying.) 🙂

Tempting though this is, Sarah, I’m already in the midst of my own writing challenge (whittling a 180000 draft down to 120000!), so I won’t participate. But I hope you have fun with your challenge
LikeLiked by 1 person
Good on you! Geez, I don’t think I’ll ever have to whittle 180,000 words down. (I don’t think I’ll ever have 180,000 words TO whittle down.) You absolutely don’t have to participate but, of course, you’ve just set your goal for March (getting down to 120,000) if you did want to play. Just saying. 🙂 *hands over whittling knife*

Might take a little longer, but I am aiming to get most of it done by then. Thanks for the encouragement. I think…

Woot for writing!! Glad you found a challenge that’ll work for you. 🙂
I keep looking at my calendar for March and wincing. My daughter is getting her tonsils out on the 18th, so there’s the surgery, the pre-op appointment, plus her speech evaluation, my son’s speech evaluation, school registrations, running training, spring break swim lessons, plus I just agreed to run a library workshop on critiquing… and I’m thinking, “you know what, I’m going to sit over here and draw, thank you very much.”
I think my writing goal for March is 5K. I want to get 5K. I should be able to get 5K, especially if I can get 50K in November… right?

Okay. Well, that is a busy month. (Hope all goes well at the Townsend.) Sitting in a corner drawing is not a bad option, all things considered.
Even with all that going on, you’re still in for 5K. Huh. At the rate I’m going, you’ll probably have more than I by the end of March. Yay, me!
